The board of directors of the City of Alameda Health Care District voted to extend the application deadline for filling the vacancy on the board of directors to Nov. 20.

The application deadline was Nov. 6, but as of Monday no official applications had been submitted to the district. However, there have been inquiries and expressions of interest from several individuals.

Any Alameda resident registered to vote in the district, who is interested in serving on the board, may submit an application package to the district clerk, as outlined in the public notice on the hospital Web site, www.alamedahospital.org.

The deadline has been extended to allow interested applicants additional time to submit their application packages to the district. Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m., Nov. 20.

The vacancy was created when Steve Wasson announced his resignation at the Oct. 12 board meeting. The term of this vacancy extends through December, 2010. The seat also will be up for public election in November 2010. The five-member board oversees the operations of the 161-bed hospital and Health Care District, which has a $73 million annual operating budget.

More information about Alameda Hospital and the appointment process may be obtained by visiting the hospital's Web site or by contacting the district clerk, Kristen Thorson at 510-814-4001.
