The holidays are fast approaching, and that means it's time for Santa Paws! Dog Bone Alley in Alameda and Holistic Hound in Berkeley will hold Santa Paws photo events in December with proceeds to be donated to Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter.
This is an opportunity to schedule a photo shoot for your pet to sit with Santa, and you will get a photo to share with family and friends. What a great gift! Below is the information you need to schedule your appointment:
Dec. 1: 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Dog Bone Alley, 1342 Park St., Alameda. Call 510-521-5800 to make an appointment.
Dec. 8: 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Holistic Hound, 1510 Walnut St., Berkeley. Call 510-843-2133 to make an appointment.
Or come to the special event to benefit the shelter at Urban Island Furnishings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9. Santa will be there for photos with your pet, and there will be animals from the shelter for adoption. There will also be a pet holiday boutique so you could adopt your new pet, have a photo with Santa and buy nice things for him/her all in one place!
If you are looking for a new pet, consider a Chihuahua. They are alert, smart, little dogs that can be good with families. Because they are small, they don't need hours of exercise and do well in apartments. They require minimal grooming, so they can be low-maintenance, too. Chihuahuas are sensitive to cold, so a little sweater to wear and warm bed to sleep in
Another great holiday gift is the shelter's calendar filled with great local cats and dogs. The calendars cost $16 each and are available at the shelter or you can call 510-337-8565 to order the calendar and have them mailed to you.
PET OF THE WEEK: Meet CHARLES, a sweet, playful, 2-year-old Chihuahua mix. He is tan and white with soulful eyes and distinctive ears.
DOG ALLEY: There are 18 dogs available for adoption at the Alameda Animal Shelter. FAWN and BABY may look like siblings, but they aren't. They are both very cute female tan Chihuahuas that are playful, fun and oh-so-sweet.
CAT LAIR: There are 45 cats and kittens available for adoption at the Alameda Animal Shelter.
Mim Carlson, Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter's executive director, is filling in while Linda Treml is away. Visit the Alameda Animal Shelter at 1590 Fortmann Way at Grand Street, call the shelter at 510-337-8565 or visit petharbor.com to view the animals.
