ANTIOCH -- Drivers who use Highway 4 in the overnight hours may want to allow for a few extra minutes of travel time starting Friday.

All westbound lanes of the freeway will be closed 1 to 5 a.m. Saturday morning between the Lone Tree Way/A Street and Somersville Road/Auto Center Drive exits in Antioch as construction work is done to add new concrete pavement, according to a Contra Costa Transportation Authority news release.

Those lanes will also be closed midnight to 3 a.m. overnight Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On the same night, eastbound lanes on the same stretch will be closed 1 to 5 a.m.

Eastbound motorists will be detoured off the highway at Somersville to Delta Fair Boulevard, east on Buchanan Road and to Putnam Street and north on Lone Tree to Highway 4.

Those driving westbound will be detoured on A to E. 18th Street and west on Sycamore Drive to Auto Center and the Highway 4 on-ramp.

The ongoing construction is part of the expansion of Highway 4 from four to eight lanes from Loveridge Road in Pittsburg through Antioch to the Highway 160 interchange.
