LIVERMORE -- Police arrested a Stanislaus County man for vehicle theft and suspicion of drunken driving Sunday after coming upon a stolen car on its roof with six injured people inside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

About 10:30 p.m., an officer responding to a medical emergency nearby came upon an overturned Honda Accord on Cayetano Court off North Livermore Avenue, Officer Tyler Hahn said. Inside emergency crews found two men and four women, all suffering from minor to moderate injuries, none of which were found to be life-threatening.

According to Hahn, investigators also discovered that the Honda Accord had been reported stolen.

Because of injuries to his head and face that required the driver to be released to the hospital immediately, no field sobriety tests were immediately performed, Hahn said. Officers later arrested 21-year-old Giovani Barocio of Empire for vehicle theft and suspicion of DUI, citing probable cause at the scene.

Results of the toxicology report are pending, Hahn said. The investigation is ongoing.
