SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO -- The death of the 16-year-old San Mateo girl struck and killed Saturday on Highway 101 is being investigated as a possible suicide, police said.
Several cars hit the girl about 8:20 p.m. as she stood or lay on the freeway near Oyster Point Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities released the girl's name Wednesday, but this newspaper does not generally identify juvenile victims of suicide.
The first vehicle to hit the girl sped away after the collision and remains unidentified, said police.
