SANTA CLARA -- A 77-year-old man who died after his vehicle careened into a pole Wednesday morning has been identified as Dorcas Taylor, of San Jose.
According to Santa Clara police Lt. Matt Hogan, officers were called to the scene of a major injury accident at Alviso and Lewis streets around 10:15 a.m. and found Taylor with "significant injuries as a result of the collision."
He was immediately taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m., according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office.
"No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved," Hogan said, and Taylor was the sole occupant of his vehicle.
He said investigators are looking into the cause, and "have not ruled out a possible medical event" preceding the crash.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
