Legendary Charles Lloyd: Monterey Jazz Festival's special star of 2014
Saxophonist Charles Lloyd's 'Forest Flower,' recorded in 1966 at the Monterey Jazz Festival, sold over 1 million copies and helped the great jazz musician reach audiences far beyond the typical jazz crowd. We talk to Lloyd, 76, about his life: playing the Fillmore, hanging out with the Beach Boys. Now he returns to the Monterey festival (Sept. 19-21) as its 'Showcase Artist,' leading a different band on each of its three days. The festival also will feature two screenings of a new documentary about Lloyd, 'Arrows Into Infinity.'
