PLEASANT HILL -- Construction on a section of Interstate 680 is scheduled to begin Tuesday evening.

Caltrans is replacing broken concrete roadway slabs and smoothing the surface between Monument Boulevard and the I-680/Highway 242 split. Caltrans will work will be done at night to avoid disrupting traffic.

Residents who live near the freeway should expect to hear construction noise, Caltrans said. The agency may temporarily close I-680 onramps and offramps during work hours and reroute traffic on to city streets.
