OAKLAND _ A Yoshi's musical engineer is in custody this morning after he entered the jazz club on Embarcadero at 8:45 a.m. and destroyed equipment with a baseball bat, Oakland police said. Yoshi's will reopen tonight. But the employee, Dan Tettiti, was arrested for felony vandalism, police said. He took a baseball to dressing rooms, as well as office and performance areas, police said. He damaged computers and pictures, and turned over tables and chairs. Police estimated the damage at $10,000. Tettiti refused to speak to officers or explain if he used his keys to enter.
The rampage stemmed from a dispute that broke out between music engineers and performers at Yoshi's Wednesday night.
The opening act was R.O.D. & Friends, a group that preforms sign language to recorded music. A record-release party connected to a vintage DJ series called "45 Sessions" followed. It is not clear what provoked the dispute or who was involved besides Tettiti.
