The slight mishap came in the No.2 singles match, with Monte Vista's Chris Myers falling 6-1, 6-5 to Marin Academy's Luke Frisher, in the Mustangs' 6-1 victory.
The loss to Frisher was tough, but something Monte Vista coach Patty Gross thought might happen after seeing Frisher play in the past.
"I knew (Frisher) would be a really tough match," Gross said. "I also saw their No.1 doubles team play against San Ramon, they were pretty good."
Marin's No.1 doubles team of Dan Brayton and Eric Slamovich struggled in the first set against Monte Vista's James Moody and Shane Swinnerton, falling 6-0. The second set caused Moody and Swinnerton some grief, but the duo prevailed in a tiebreak point, 7-6.
Monte Vista the No. 2 seed will face No. 3 Piedmont at 10 a.m. Saturday at Heritage. The winner will play for the championship at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Heritage.
