Councilman stands ready to serve

I would like to express my thanks to all of the residents of San Leandro who voted for me, walked precincts, made phone calls and contributed financially to my recent election campaign.

It takes a large group of supporters to make a campaign successful, and I will always be grateful to those whose efforts helped me win.

I also stand ready to listen to those whose views are different from my own. A council member is the representative of all residents.

I love San Leandro. Now that the election is over, I will put all my efforts into making good decisions to move our city forward. I will continue to be accessible to all San Leandrans.

Please let me know of your ideas and concerns. The success of a city is a direct result of the involvement of its citizens.

Outlet stores placed in horrible location

I'm a business owner with about 30 employees at our Livermore Collier Canyon location being affected by the traffic at the new Paragon Outlet stores.

I'm ashamed that Livermore was allowed to build such a traffic screw-up on our already congested I-580 freeway.

It is costing businesses like ours several thousand dollars on driving time and lost revenue due to the neglect of planning -- and stores profiting at our expense.

Opening weekend of the mall, I came very close to a major traffic accident with my family as several cars decided to stop in the second lane to attempt to merge into a stopped slow lane.

Several cars swerved to keep from hitting me and my family as I was stopped because of the idiot trying to merge.

Already there have been several accidents, all because of the single lane to exit the freeway.

Need to examine living conditions

Christians have a legal right to practice their religion within Israel.

In the West Bank, Palestinians have local control in their population centers -- including Bethlehem -- so Christians in these areas are more affected by Palestinian leaders than by Israel.

Christians have been persecuted in Muslim countries -- Egypt, Lybia, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia. The writer of the Nov. 16 letter, "Praise support for West Bank village," needs to examine the condition of Christians living in Muslim countries instead of scapegoating Israel.

Oakland being run by incompetents

Last weekend began in Oakland with the news of yet another homicide. The seemingly inexorable disintegration of civilization continues in Oakland unabated.

Criminals run the town, and the elected hierarchy in Oakland is helpless to combat the carnage. The people entrusted with the responsibility of running Oakland are incompetent, and more than likely resigned to the fact that their town will in perpetuity be the repository for an extraordinarily disproportionate number of society's swine, thugs, thieves, murderers, pimps, dependent incompetents, demanding and irresponsible cretins.

Oakland is just that sort of town; replete with every sort of aberrant, dysfunctional, violent, amoral, selfish, stupid, ignorant, inept, uneducated, destructive leeches who prey on the weak and unsuspecting, and destroy everything in their wake.

These homicides are traveling up the hill, folks. They will be in your neck of the woods real soon; count on it. There is no plan, no real willingness on the part of Mayor Jean Quan and the City Council to combat the scourge.

Trapped in the right-wing bubble

The only thing I have enjoyed more than election night in the past couple of weeks has been the various "explanations" of the national and statewide results that have come from my compatriots on the right.

The lessons they appear to have taken from the voters' rejection of their visions for our country and our state have been that the majority of us are a pack of fools, "takers," fellow travelers, traitors and enemies of democracy and free enterprise.

Well, that's fine by me; no politician or political party has ever bounced back from a defeat by blaming the electorate.

So I say, stay trapped in your right-wing bubble. Stay disconnected from the real concerns and values of the majority. And, most important, continue to shrink in power and influence until your irrelevance is on display for all to see.
