PLEASANTON

Elementary school goes green: Lydiksen Elementary School won the University of Phoenix and KNBR-AM radio station's "Going Green" initiative contest for the month of September.

The school on the northwest side of Pleasanton was picked from 24 other Bay Area schools that applied. Lydiksen received a $1,000 prize and two tickets to a San Francisco 49ers game.

Lydiksen was recognized for encouraging its students and family to recycle at home, attending environmental committee meetings, bring recyclable items back to school to recycle and distributing its newsletter via e-mail.

The Going Green initiative started in September and will run through December. Students or employees of Bay Area schools can enter their school in the contest by visiting www.knbr.com and filling out a form about their school's efforts.
