A portion of Vasco Road, the popular commute route between Contra Costa and Alameda counties will be closed to traffic for the entire weekend for road construction.
The stretch being worked on is just north of Republic Landfill Driveway and just south of the entrance to Los Vaqueros Reservoir will be off-limits until 6 a.m. Nov. 2.
Alameda County public works officials are closing the thoroughfare for safety while crews connect the new roadway with the existing one at the northern and southern ends, work that includes removing a large rock outcropping.
Motorists heading north should continue east on Interstate 580 toward Tracy, merge onto Interstate 205 east, exit at Mountain House Parkway and continue north before turning left on Byron Highway. Then turn left on Camino Diablo Road, which intersects with Vasco Road.
Southbound traffic should turn left on Camino Diablo Road, right on Byron Highway, then right on Mountain House Parkway. Drivers then take I-205 westbound, merge with I-580 westbound, and exit onto Vasco Road.
