LIVERMORE — Representatives from a search firm that helps school districts find qualified superintendents will outline a plan Tuesday to find a replacement for Brenda Miller, Livermore's top administrator.

In September, Miller announced plans to retire in February. Trustees have said they will hire educational consultants to help them hunt for her replacement.

Miller, 59, worked in Pleasanton schools for 25 years as a principal, vice principal, director of curriculum and teacher before joining the Livermore district in 1997 as assistant superintendent of educational service.

On Tuesday, the board will consider a staff recommendation to hire the Cosca Group, a Fairfield-based firm, to aid in the search. According to the firm's Web site, Cosca Group is currently working with the Morgan Hill and South Pasadena school districts in their searches for a superintendent.

Cosca is proposing a fixed fee of $27,200. It was chosen based on its estimate, track record, references and search process, according to a staff report.

After a firm is named, it will work with the board to pinpoint the district's greatest needs and the desired characteristics of a new superintendent. Input will also be gathered from students, parents, teachers, administrators and other community members. The process is expected to take several months.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the board meeting room, 685 E. Jack London Blvd.
