DANVILLE -- A thief backed a stolen truck into the window of a bicycle store over the weekend and rode off on an expensive bike, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said.

A patrol officer came upon the aftermath of the break-in -- a stake-bed truck backed through a store window in the 100 block of Hartz Avene -- about 6:10 a.m. Sunday, said Chief Steve Simpkins.

Simpkins said the driver was unable to back out because the truck wheels ended up stuck too high to drive. Missing from the store was a Giant-brand Trinity Advance bicycle, valued at a minimum of $6,000, which the driver is believed to have used as a getaway vehicle.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video taken at the time of the break-in. Anyone with information can contact Detective Sgt. Allan Shields at 925-314-3703.
