A body was found Sunday evening on one of East Bay Regional Park District's properties, police say.

The Hayward Police Department alerted park police at 7:14 p.m. that a man had been found lying near the water at Hayward Regional Shoreline, a 1,713-acre collection of marshes, wetlands and trails.

A hiker on the park's San Francisco Bay Trail called 911 to report the sighting, said Lt. Jon King of the East Bay Regional Park District.

Police from both agencies responded to find the body on rocks next to the trail about ¼-mile south of the end of West Winton Avenue, a staging area for the trail, King said.

There were no signs of foul play, he added.

Officials were still at the site Sunday night awaiting the arrival of Alameda County's coroner.
