HAYWARD -- The city tore out 15 diseased trees at Tennyson and Ruus roads on Tuesday, and will replace them with 18 healthy ones.

City workers also will put irrigation and bay-friendly plants, such as fountain grass and lantana, and add a new pathway, said Thomas Rossi, landscape maintenance supervisor for Hayward.

"We are beautifying that corner for the neighborhood and its residents," he said.

City workers also have recently added bay-friendly plants to medians along Tennyson and planted close to 150 trees on Huntwood Avenue.
