Pleasanton Summer Classic Tournament

Fremont Flyers 5, San Bruno Storm 4, 9 inn.: The Fremont Flyers 12U-B Fast-pitch softball team completed a perfect 6-0 record at the Pleasanton Summer Classic Softball Tournament with an electrifying 5-4 comeback win over the San Bruno Storm on July 7th. The Flyers tied the game 2-2 in the sixth inning and, after both teams went scoreless in the seventh inning, the game went into extra innings. In the eighth inning, the Storm scored a run, but the Flyers, down to their last out, tied the score at 3-3 and forced yet another extra inning. In the ninth, the Storm scored another run to take a 4-3 advantage. The Flyers didn't panic and kept fighting back. After loading the bases, and down to their last out again, they scored two runs on a base hit by Alexis Palmon, with Marissa LaMantia and her incredible speed beating the throw to home plate for the winning run.

Overall, it was an all-around team effort. The starting pitchers for the tournament -- Palmon, Camille Rodriguez (9 innings in the championship game), and Samantha Tulabing, were outstanding. Positions players Melanie Gonzales, Jaeda Holland, LaMantia, Jazmine Lopez, Haylee Morris, Savannah Patino, Sierra Raha, and Bella Rivera played very well offensively and, more importantly, they all played excellent defense.

Fremont opened the tournament with a 4-3 victory over the Pleasanton Phantom on July 5, then continued pool play with a 5-2 win over the Livermore Smoke and a 2-0 victory over the San Bruno Storm on July 6. Fremont dispatched the San Ramon Valley Stompers 9-2 in a quarterfinal game and the San Carlos Force 8-0 in a semifinal game, both on July 7.
