OAKLAND -- Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili will join Tony Parker on the bench Thursday night when the San Antonio Spurs play the Warriors at Oracle Arena in a nationally televised game.
Parker was already out with a shin contusion, but Duncan and Ginobili also will not play due to coach Gregg Popovich's occasional strategy of giving his aging players rest during tough stretches of the regular season. The Spurs will be playing their seventh game in 10 days, and are coming off a victory at Phoenix Wednesday night.
Popovich and the Spurs were fined $250,000 last season when the coach elected to send Duncan, Parker, Ginobili and Danny Green back to San Antonio before a nationally televised game against the Miami Heat. The Spurs' big three also sat out a game against the Warriors late in the regular season at Oracle.
The Warriors also learned Thursday that they won't be facing Kobe Bryant Saturday night when they host the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers announced Bryant that has a fracture in his left knee and will miss a minimum of six weeks.
