With 41 combined points, Natalie Romeo and Gabriella Grupalo led the Carondelet basketball team (17-3) to an 81-50 road win at Deer Valley (15-5) Saturday in a nonleague game.

The pair opened up the game with eight-straight points that gave the Cougars a lead they would not relinquish. Grupalo scored the first six with two-straight corner three-pointers that Romeo followed with a layup.

Grupalo, who finished with 20 points, and Romeo, who scored a game-high 21, were able to get to the paint for multiple layups and pushed the pace of the offense.

"It was a tremendous effort by those two," Carondelet coach Margaret Gartner said. "We want to play at a tempo that other teams find difficult to play at. (Romeo and Grupalo) are the tempo setters."

Carondelet used a full-court press for most of the game to force multiple Deer Valley turnovers that led to transition points for the Cougars. Most of the team's seven three-pointers came from kick-outs.

The Cougars also got 15 points from Christina Chenault and 10 from Kim Savio.

For Deer Valley, Maranne Johnson scored a team-high 18 points, including seven of the team's final 10 points. Sierra Dixon also had 10 for the Wolverines.
